Dr. Susan Prouty, Volunteer Physician

The importance of maintaining good health through the proper use of preventative medications cannot be overstated. Non-compliance can lead to dangerous complications in otherwise manageable chronic conditions. For example, if a diabetic is unable to pay

for insulin and other medications and is forced to skip them, it could lead to complications such as heart disease, vascular disease, neuropathy, or amputation. Access to the proper medications would allow the person with diabetes to manage their condition before it becomes a problem. Patients who come to The Clinic quickly develop a rapport with our doctors, and because of this, they are more likely to return for follow-up visits and to be compliant with their medication schedules. It is essential that we are able to provide medications to those patients who would be unable to obtain them otherwise.

Eloise Bathurst, RN

Eloise Bathurst, RN, has been a volunteer at The Clinic from day one. “Dr. Stuart came to a meeting of the Phoenixville Women’s Club to talk about her plans for opening The Clinic,” stated Eloise. “I had been retired from nursing for awhile, and was looking for a way to get back into it. I showed up at the front door on opening day and there were already patients here waiting to be seen. I stepped right in, and have been here ever since!”

After graduating from nursing school in Chicago, Eloise worked as an office nurse, an occupational health nurse, and for the Phoenixville Hospital in both the operating and emergency rooms. “The Clinic is a wonderful place to volunteer,” states Eloise “If you can help just one person during the day, then that is a day worth living.”

You don’t have to be a nurse to volunteer at The Clinic. There are many additional ways to give of your time. Please contact Ann Mitchell Reid at 610-935-1134, ext. 26, for more information on volunteer service.

Ray And Sue Lisiewski

SueRay and Sue Lisiewski have been a part of The Clinic’s volunteer family since the beginning. Former patients of Dr. Stuart’s, they started to volunteer here as soon
as they retired - Sue at the front desk and Ray delivering bread and fresh produce for patients. Ray, a retired mechanical design engineer, started volunteering even before retirement, while The Clinic was renovating their building on Church Street. “I hadRay L.
Fridays off,” he says, “and I used to come in to do maintenance on the building.” When something was needed, Ray went out, got the supplies donated, and either did the work himself or with volunteers he recruited. As The Clinic started seeing patients, however, Ray saw another way in which he could help. “Both Sue and I grew up on farms,” explains Ray, “so we realized the importance of fresh food to people’s health.” Ray began visiting local supermarkets and asking for donations of bread for Clinic patients. From there, he says, “it just blossomed.” Each week, Ray provides bread, canned goods, and fresh produce to The Clinic and many other organizations in Phoenixville. He picks up food from supermarkets, schools who have held canned food drives, and farms who are part of Chester County’s “gleaning program,” and then delivers
the food throughout the area. “The Clinic is my number one priority,” states Ray. “Sue and I call it ‘our clinic’, and I think most of the volunteers feel that way. Our hearts have always been in this place.” “There is such a need for a place like The Clinic,” states Sue, “and it is a wonderful feeling to be able to help so many people. We are thrilled to be a part of it.”

How Can I Help?

If you are a nurse and would like to volunteer please fill out the volunteer Information form or contact Anne Mitchell Reid at 610-935-1134 ext. 26

Doctors, nurses, specialist or other medical professionals are welcome.

  • Do I have to be a nurse or doctor to volunteer? No. We welcome anyone who is interested in helping.
  • What kind of work will I be doing as a non-medical volunteer? As a volunteer at The Clinic you will join a family of volunteers. We will match your work skills and interests to the many jobs that need to be done at the Clinic on a daily basis - and there are many! Such as; receptionist, scheduling, filing, data entry, gardening, handyman work, etc. There are many ways to help. Let us know how you would like to contribute.
  • Will I be tied down with a busy work schedule if I volunteer? Most of our volunteers work a 4 hour week. The schedule is set up for a morning and afternoon shift, with a different set of volunteers for each time frame.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. Without them we would not be able to keep our doors open. To all of the volunteers... thank you!
